The Community Uplift Awards give FMI members a timely opportunity to showcase programs that strengthen communities and highlight the food industry’s impact.

Every day, across neighborhoods nationwide, food retailers and suppliers quietly show up for their communities. A store manager organizes a food drive after a storm. A supplier partners with a local nonprofit to expand access to fresh produce. A team volunteers it’s time to support health screenings and nutrition education. These moments rarely make headlines, but they shape lives.
The Community Uplift Awards exist to spotlight the everyday impact of the food industry. With nominations open from June 22 through July 17, FMI members have a dedicated opportunity to share the programs and partnerships that strengthen communities and showcase the industry’s leadership in driving meaningful change.
Think about the last time your organization stepped in to meet a community need. Maybe it started small, a single store partnering with a local food bank that grew into a program that now reaches thousands. Or perhaps it was a new idea sparked by an employee who saw a gap and acted. These are the stories that deserve a broader audience.
The Community Uplift Awards recognize programs that address food insecurity, promote neighborhood health and well-being and create meaningful social impact. They highlight how the food industry moves beyond transactions and becomes a trusted community partner. They also remind policymakers, media and industry leaders that behind every shelf and supply chain is a commitment to serve.
What makes these awards different is their focus on real impact. Programs are evaluated on how they engage communities, address needs and deliver measurable results. Whether it is a retailer increasing access to fresh food in underserved areas or a supplier reducing food waste through innovative partnerships, each nomination tells a story of purpose and progress.
For many past nominees, the recognition has done more than celebrate a single initiative. It has amplified their work, inspired peers and created a ripple effect across the industry. Sharing these stories builds momentum and encourages new ideas that benefit communities nationwide.
This is your moment to tell that story.
Between now and July 17, consider the programs that reflect your organization’s values in action. Gather your team, revisit the work you are most proud of and submit a nomination. By doing so, you not only recognize your own efforts but contribute to a larger narrative, one that demonstrates how the food industry uplifts the communities it serves every day.
