Summer Food Safety Lessons

When I think about summertime, my first thought is all the delicious food—BBQ, grilled fish, fresh watermelon and sweet corn. Summer offers an opportunity for grocers to remind customers of proper food handling and storage techniques to prevent foodborne illness. Here are some great resources created with the Partnership for Food Safety Education, of which FMI is a partner organization, for food retailers to use to better educate shoppers about summertime food safety:

Grill Master Flyer – From food temperatures to thermometer usage, this flyer has it all to help shoppers get grilling.

Food Safety on the Move Flyer – A good reminder for families headed out of town this summer about proper food storage and cooking practices.

Social Media Summer Grilling Graphics – From hamburgers to chicken to pork chops, these social media graphics can be used to teach customers food safety basics.

Safe Produce Handling Education Campaign – Because no summer is complete without fresh produce.
