WE CARD is everywhere at the nation's tobacco-selling retailers and has been for 18 years running. September is We Card Awareness Month and a good time for retailers to brush up on their responsible retailing efforts to identify and prevent not just tobacco, but e-cigarettes and other age-restricted product sales to minors.
We Card Program, Inc. is a national non-profit organization that represents a unified effort among trade associations, retailers, wholesalers and manufacturers. It was created to support retailers of tobacco and other age-restricted products. Individual retail establishments as well as large retail chains use We Card's educational and training services to comply with federal and state laws while working to prevent underage tobacco and age-restricted product sales. National and state retail trade associations, government officials, community groups and others also support We Card's ongoing efforts to educate and train retailers.
The We Card's eLearning Center provides Internet-based training of FDA regulations and state laws. It provides separate training courses for both frontend clerks and for management staff. The courses are a great way to make sure your store is meeting the latest regulations and are up-to-date on new information. In fact, the American Business Awards presented the We Card program with a Bronze Stevie® Award in the Best Training Site website category at the 11th Annual American Business Awards last September.
We Card is an anchor resource for the food industry’s efforts to be responsible retailers of age-restricted products. This is a top priority for the retail food industry not only because it's the right thing to do and the law requires it, but also because it's important to our customers and the communities we serve.
