On behalf of the American Frozen Food Institute (AFFI), the American Meat Institute (AMI), the Food Marketing Institute (FMI), the Food Products Association (FPA), and the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA), the National Meat Canners Association (NMCA), and the National Turkey Federation (NTF) (the “Associations”) we are pleased to jointly submit comments concerning the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service’s (FSIS) proposal to amend the Federal meat and poultry products inspection regulations to reference the revised, current version of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Handbook 133. The Associations collectively represent a substantial portion of the food manufacturing and processing industry in the United States. In this capacity, the Associations and its members have a significant interest in the incorporation of and revisions made to NIST Handbook 133.
