FMI Launches SQF Global: Uniting the Worldwide Food Safety Community
ARLINGTON, VA – The Safe Quality Food Institute (SQFI), a division of FMI – The Food
Industry Association, today announces a new event, SQF Global, which aims to unite the worldwide food safety community. The event will be held in an online environment October 27-29, 2020, and will span two hemispheres, as well as multiple languages and time zones.
“SQF Global will gather a dynamic community of food producers, retailers, leaders and service innovators across a wide range of food safety operations and job functions, including compliance, quality, training, regulatory, audit and technical areas,” FMI President and CEO Leslie G. Sarasin said. “It’s our intention to offer a forum that fosters continued enhancement of the safety and security of the global food supply chain.”
The SQF certified supplier sites provide critical global food production and employ thousands of workers at more than 10,000 sites in more than 40 countries. The SQF mission is to deliver consistent, globally recognized food safety and quality certification programs based on sound scientific principles, applied across all industry sectors, and valued by all stakeholders.
Gigi Vita, chief food safety assessment officer and senior vice president of SQF, noted, “By welcoming food safety professionals from among 40 countries across multiple languages and time zones, SQF Global provides an opportunity for the food safety community to learn, collaborate, engage, and connect with peers. During COVID-19, our organization has remained focused on worker and auditor safety, supply chain, production, product quality and trust.”
SQF Global will run over the course of three business days to provide flexibility with multiple engagement opportunities using a collaborative, convenient technology platform. The program will include the release of SQF’s Edition 9.0 Code, designed to meet the latest GFSI benchmarking standards, to address retailer and buyer needs. All the improvements and enhancements are built to deliver a better audit experience, creating enhanced value and confidence in the SQF certificate.
