ARLINGTON, VA – Leslie Sarasin, president and CEO, for FMI - The Food Industry Association – offered the following comments on the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) newly released procedures, “Food Industry Recommended Protocols When Employee/Customer Tests Positive for COVID-19.” This resource relies on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and was developed in part with consultation from FMI.

Sarasin said, “We support the agency’s adoption of these standard science-based protocols for remediation when a positive (COVID-19) case is confirmed in the food industry. FMI was pleased to consult in the development of this guidance and protocols that strongly encourage employers to work with local and/or state public health authorities when a positive COVID-19 case occurs. The consistency in our approach ensures the public’s confidence in the food industry’s response to protecting public health.

“As the nation continues to navigate this unparalleled national emergency, we are grateful for the nimbleness of FDA’s response to the needs of the food industry and the agency’s collaborative spirit."
