Mark Batenic Elected to FMI Board

ARLINGTON, VA — May 5, 2009 — Food Marketing Institute (FMI) announced today the election of Mark Batenic, chairman, president and chief executive officer of IGA USA, to the FMI Board of Directors.

     Batenic began his career in the food industry as a manager at Fleming Company where he was held various positions before being named senior vice president of northeast operations. Prior to joining IGA, he was the executive vice president and chief operating officer of Clemens Markets in Kulpsville, Pennsylvania. Batenic was named to his current position in 2006.

     He is responsible for domestic operations for 1,150 IGA stores across the country. Since his appointment at IGA USA, Batenic and his team have moved aggressively to advance the IGA Brand, redefining it as the preferred choice of independent grocers and regional chains.

     Batenic serves on the board of Food for All and Saint Joseph’s University Academy of Food Marketing. He has served on the boards of the National Grocers Association, Food Industry Against Hunger and the New Jersey Food Council.

     He received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Kansas and attended Cornell University’s Food Industry Executive Program and the Strategic Marketing Planning Program at the University of Michigan.
