WASHINGTON, DC — January 22, 2002 — The Food Marketing Institute (FMI) today announces the launch of The FMI Daily Lead, a free daily e-news service that provides summaries of some of the leading food industry news stories from around the globe.

“We are very excited to be launching The FMI Daily Lead,” said FMI President and CEO Tim Hammonds. “FMI member company leaders and their associates, as well as others interested in food industry issues, can keep informed of important news and developments every business day.”

The FMI Daily Lead will cover topics such as retail operations, consumer trends, technology solutions, food safety, laws and regulations, health and nutrition, and industry developments. News stories will be selected from more than 100 different media sources, including daily newspapers, trade and consumer magazines, news wire services and broadcast networks and affiliates.

The FMI Daily Lead will also feature regular commentary from Kevin Coupe, founder and "content guy” of the daily online news service, Morning News Beat.

Individuals who subscribe to the service by Friday, January 26, will be eligible to win a complimentary registration to the 2002 FMI Show, May 5-7 at Chicago’s McCormick Place.
