State Affairs
Our state government relations department provides FMI member companies and state association executives with resources and support to manage the wide range of state public policy challenges that impact the food industry.
2026 FMI State Legislative Outlook
The FMI State Legislative Outlook provides a detailed overview of issues the grocery industry expects to face in the upcoming state legislative sessions. This resource also contains state-specific budget and political information.
Swipe Fee Fairness
Grocery retailers accept many forms of payment, including credit cards. As credit and debit card usage has increased, so have swipe fees, also known as interchange fees, which are charged to grocers by the card companies. Many grocers say that credit card swipe fees are the second highest operating cost, after labor. Significantly, swipe fees are also charged on the sales tax portion of a receipt.
