Many gene edited food products are currently in the development pipeline and will soon be available for commercial introduction. Food retailers and the food industry, in general, will need to be prepared for the consumer questions that will come when these products hit the shelves.
For three years, FMI has been working with Dr. Vincenzina Caputo of Michigan State University in researching the level of consumer awareness, acceptance, and willingness to buy gene-edited products. We published our initial findings on Consumer Acceptance of Gene Edited Foods in 2020. Since then, the FMI Foundation, Dr. Caputo and her colleague Valerie Kilders of Michigan State University have dug deeper into this topic, determining what information consumer’s need regarding biotech applications in food, who they turn to and trust for such information, and what helps them be more willing to buy gene-edited food products.
View this FMI members-only webinar reviewing the important new findings of Part 2 of the research entitled: Consumer Attitudes, Trust, and Acceptance of Bioengineered and Gene-Edited Food under the National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Standard
