April 20, 2010
ARLINGTON, VA — April 19, 2010 — Food Marketing Institute President and Chief Executive Officer Leslie G. Sarasin issued the following statement about the death of Joseph Azzolina, Sr., president of Food Circus/Foodtown supermarkets:

“I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of a supermarket industry leader, Joe Azzolina. He was a wonderful family man, a great friend to many, a successful and hardworking businessman, a dedicated statesman and a proud Navy captain.

Joe was a valuable contributor to our industry and served on the FMI Board of Directors for 17 years. He was always generous with his time and was happy to share his knowledge and experience as an independent operator.

On behalf of FMI, I extend my deepest sympathy to his wife, Roselyn, and their children. He will be greatly missed.”
