Attracting, Exciting, and Engaging with Families

SpartanNash Company stated that their goal for National Family Meals Month™  was to “attract, excite and engage with all of the families that shop in our store and encourage them to eat together at home again during the month of September,” according to Nathan Stock, Regional Wellness Specialist at SpartanNash Company. This is one of the many reasons why they were a Gold Plate Award winner.

SpartanNash Regional Wellness Specialists, who are dietitians and nutritionists, spread the family meals cheer in-store. They gave out oven mitts, cans of their private brand soup, and fliers about National Family Meals Month to inspire family meals and inform families of the many benefits of sharing meals together.

A unique feature of their program was that the Regional Wellness Specialists surprised families shopping together with a fully paid for family meal and a recipe to accompany all the ingredients in the meal.

Through their corporate health and wellness program, all store associates were encouraged to have more fruits and vegetables with their family meals and they were also invited to participate in a company video about their favorite family meals moment.

SpartanNash’s campaign reached an impressive number of people— they reached over 5 million people through their social networks and ads via video, posts and recipes. They also printed 8 million paper ads in the month of September that promoted National Family Meals Month across 10 states.
