State-Specific Training Programs
Ohio users must take the SafeMark® Food Protection Manager Training (OHIO), formerly “Level 2” training. Retail stores with a designated risk level of III or IV must have at least one Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) per location.

Ohio – SafeMark® Person in Charge (PIC) Certification Training
Formerly "Level 1" training, PIC certification is required for the designated person in charge on every shift. This applies to retail establishments with a risk level of I through IV, as designated by the Ohio Administrative Code. Certification does not expire under current Ohio regulations.

Before purchasing, please note:
- Once you complete the Food Handler training course, you will take your certification exam through the National Registry for Food Safety Professionals.
- The exam can be taken flexibly in person or online with different proctoring options.
- The virtual exam is available in English and Spanish.
- The paper & pencil exam is available in English, Spanish, Korean, modern and traditional Chinese.
- After the exam, you will receive a Notification of Test Results. Results are broken down by domain/task areas. The examinee will be ranked in each area as “Mastered” (excelled), “Competent” (did well), or "Needs Review" (requiring a deep dive into the content area).
- Retesting: If the examinee receives a failing score, the exam must be purchased again to retake. An examinee may retake the test 24 hours after notification of a first or second failure. If a third attempt is needed, the examinee must wait 60 days to retake.
