Every manager takes a unique journey that leads to their position at the helm of a store. Almedin “Almo” Dokic’s journey started in war-torn Bosnia, continued through a time as a refugee in Germany and ultimately took him to the United States, where he fortuitously started in the grocery business nearly 25 years ago.
His background formed his tenacity and work ethic, which have proven inspiring to associates who believe in his mantra, “We can get better.” In addition to encouraging day-to-day excellence, Almo shows what’s possible in industry careers, having moved up from his original cashier job to other departmental roles and, in 2021, to store manager. In 2025, he was named Store Manager of the Year for his region and division and was a finalist for Food Lion’s highest store manager award.
While he often receives accolades, Almo is known for his modest nature. He engages with customers daily and enjoys coaching associates while working alongside them.
Under Almo’s management, the store has turned a below-potential performance into successive years of growth. When shrink reduction started to lag, Almo partnered with a regional support specialist to identify the cause and reset routines, which substantially improved results.
Understanding disruptive times all too well, Almo has been a pillar of strength in the community. He helped partner organizations as they faced flooding, water crises and the suspension of SNAP benefits, and he enthusiastically supports the Food Lion Feeds program.
