SUBJECT: Materials/Information for FMI Board Meeting and Midwinter Executive Conference

I look forward to welcoming you to Scottsdale, Arizona in a few weeks for FMI's January Board of Directors meeting and the 2014 Midwinter Executive Conference.  

As you prepare for the upcoming FMI Board of Directors meeting and Midwinter Executive Conference, I am pleased to advise that materials are available on the FMI Board webpage (www.fmi.org/board) for review in advance of your arrival in Scottsdale. Please also bring these materials with you to the meeting.

Please check in with Cidney McNeil in the Board Hospitality Suite located in Terrazzo upon arrival in Scottsdale.  You will be provided with a final schedule, name badge and other important information for the meeting.

Meeting Schedule
The FMI Board meeting will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2014.  A continental breakfast hosted by Kellogg Company will be available beginning at 8:00 a.m.  All meetings and events will take place at The Phoenician (6000 East Camelback Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85251).

Please find enclosed a meeting schedule for all Board and board-level committee events. Please note that some meetings and times have changed since the preliminary meeting notice was distributed in the fall. A final schedule will be provided to you when you arrive in Scottsdale.

Briefing Material
Please find available on the FMI Board website the briefing materials for the January 11 Board of Directors meeting.

There are two sets of documents available for download.  The first set of documents includes the schedule of events, board agenda and other relevant background material, including policy considerations, which require a Board vote.  

The second document is the Food Marketing Institute Strategic Plan Progress Update report. Due to this meeting's focus on Big Data, the upcoming meeting will not include sufficient time for most individual Committee reports.  As a result, these reports are being provided in advance in the form of the Food Marketing Institute Strategic Plan Progress Update report so you may review the progress made thus far against the Strategic Plan at your leisure. There will be time during the Board meeting for any questions you may have about these reports.  In the alternative, please feel free to reach out directly to the identified FMI staff member to discuss any of the individual topics either before or after the Board meeting.

Registration and Hospitality Suite

Upon arrival at The Phoenician, Board Members and spouses are invited to pick up badges, the final meeting schedule and other important information from Cidney McNeil in the Board Hospitality Suite located in Il Terrazzo Salon.  FMI Board Members should not check in at the general Midwinter registration desk. 

This hospitality suite is reserved for FMI Board Members, their spouses and guests.  Refreshments will be available and FMI staff will be on hand to answer questions and provide any assistance needed. The Board registration hours and locations are indicated below.

In January the average temperature in Scottsdale is 69 degrees during the day and 42 degrees in the evening.

Phoenix Airport and Ground Transportation

The Phoenician and the Ritz-Carlton are located approximately 10 miles or 20-25 minutes from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), nestled at the base of Camelback Mountain, near the burgeoning entertainment, shopping and cultural districts of Scottsdale, Arizona.

Taxis are available at the airport and cost approximately $25-$35 one way to The Phoenician. Car service can also be arranged through the hotel.  For this service, please contact the concierge desk at (480) 423-2572 for more information.

Valet parking is available at The Phoenician at a rate of $29.00 per room per day. Optional self-parking is complimentary.

The Board Spouse event will be held Saturday, January 11 and will depart the hotel lobby at 10am.  Spouses will tour the quaint La Buena Vida home located on The Phoenician property then return to the Board Hospitality Suite for lunch and a brief presentation on 2014 fashion and trends provided by Procter & Gamble.

On Sunday, January 12, transportation is available for those interested in visiting the Celebration of Fine Art show and sale in Scottsdale.  A sign-up sheet will be available in the Board Hospitality room for those interested.

The Midwinter Spouse Luncheon will be held on Monday at 12 noon in the Estrella Room.
