Alliance for Sustainable Packaging for Foods

FMI is a founding member of the Alliance for Sustainable Packaging for Foods (ASPF), established to engage with regulators, governments, researchers and industries in the United States, Canada and the European Union to encourage the adoption of harmonized food packaging regulations to achieve environmental sustainability without compromising food safety and product quality. U.S. Plastics Pact

FMI is a Founding Activator of the U.S. Plastics Pact, which will create a unified national framework for a circular economy for plastics, creating structure, coherence, aligned targets, and associated reporting. The U.S. Plastics Pact has four outlined targets to encourage bold action:

  • Define a list of plastic packaging to be designated as problematic or unnecessary by 2021 and take measures to eliminate them by 2025.
  • By 2025, all plastic packaging will be 100% reusable, recyclable or compostable.
  • Undertake ambitious actions to effectively recycle or compost 50% of plastic packaging by 2025.
  • By 2025, the average recycled content or responsibly-sourced, bio-based content in plastic packaging will be 30%
