The Food Marketing Institute1 is pleased to respond to the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA’s) request for comments on the collection of information associated with the Reportable Food Registry (RFR). 74 Fed. Reg. 53746. In particular, FDA has asked for information on (1) the accuracy of the Agency’s estimated burden; (2) ways to enhance the quality, utility and clarity of the information to be collected; and (3) ways “to minimize the burden of the collection of information on respondents, including through the use of automated collection techniques, when appropriate, and other forms of information technology.” As discussed more fully below, a relatively modest technological amendment to the RFR will allow it to harness information available via the Rapid Recall Exchange™, thereby maximizing efficiency of FDA’s program and minimizing burden.
