Registered to Vote

An engaged, mission-driven team is key to any organization. That is especially true with food retailing, in which close ties to customers and the communities they live in can be the key to your success. An engaged team is made up of individuals who are active participants in their community. Active participation means exercising our right to vote. But you can’t vote if you’re not registered.

FMI has joined with dozens of other organizations and companies to support Employee Voter Registration Week Sept. 25-29. This is a national initiative in which employers encourage their employees to become registered voters. The goal is not to tell employees how to vote, but simply to encourage them to exercise their right to vote.

Tomorrow thousands of voters in Alabama will once again head to the polls to vote in the Republican primary run-off in the U.S. Senate special election to replace Jeff Sessions. Tuesday’s winner will face Democrat Doug Jones, a former U.S. Attorney, in November. With important legislative battles still brewing on Capitol Hill, choosing the next U.S. Senator from Alabama will be an extremely critical decision that will ultimately affect the rest of the nation. This is just one example of why it’s important to be prepared to vote by registering in advance.

Employee Voter Registration Week is an excellent opportunity to help your employees participate in this country’s democratic institutions. Visit our website and view our employer resources to see how you can help!
