Grocers are extremely busy; making sure shelves are fully stocked; payments systems are operating smoothly; associates are happy and fulfilled, customers are satisfied, and busy ensuring their concerns are being addressed in Washington. FMI recently hosted a well-attended supermarket industry fly-in on Capitol Hill, our annual Day in Washington, during which hundreds of grocers met with their lawmakers to advocate on issues important to the industry.

FMI’s advocacy app has helped our fly-in attendees, state association executives and government relations committee members navigate the halls of Congress, but we want all FMI members to be aware of its benefits even if they cannot attend our events in Washington. The FMI Advocacy app provides members and supporters with resources to successfully advocate to Congress, from Washington, D.C. or back in the home states and districts.

How to Use It

The FMI Advocacy app has many functions, including the ability to search the congressional directory by zip code to discover which legislator represents a specific town or store location as well as identifying the correct contact information for offices on Capitol Hill. The app houses government relations issue papers for a brief overview of the industry’s priority issues being considered in Congress. When relevant, FMI will add in key votes or co-sponsorships to help identify which lawmakers are voting with the interests of the industry in mind. Additionally, the app has a grassroots advocacy feature where users will find FMI grassroots letters that are setup for stakeholders to send to elected officials.

How To Download It

Step 1: Go to your phone’s app store.

Step 2: Search “FMI Advocacy”.

Step 3: Download and begin advocating from your screen.
