Retail Technology
The retail and wholesale food industry pioneered, and it could be argued, created the science of retail technology in the 1970's through adoption of the Universal Product Code (UPC) and point-of-sale scanning technologies. Today, retail technology touches virtually every aspect of total store operations from DSD receiving, to electronic time clocks and payroll systems, to warehouse management systems, even printing and display technologies. The FMI Retail Technology Website is your resource for keeping up with the ever quickening pace of retail technology products, services, implementations, and knowledge.
- FMI I/T Committee:
An FMI member committee comprised of retail and wholesale food industry I/T professionals coordinating educational programs, and formulating industry technology positions. - Improving The Receiving Function Using The EPC And RFID
Members of the FMI I/T Committee believe improving the transmission of invoice and supply chain data is incomplete without also improving verification of the actual physical product. Emerging radio frequency identification (RFID) technology will soon merge physical product flows with the corresponding information flows that drive hundreds of other information systems. The committee expects the receiving function to attract initial attention for RFID implementations. - Find out how your company can participate in the development of new receiving systems based on RFID. The FMI I/T Committee paper below provides support for emerging RFID technologies and a call for industry action in establishing standards.
