Jurgens has spent his entire career with Hy-Vee starting out as a part-time carryout clerk and moving up the ranks to store manager, district manager, regional manager, senior vice president and executive vice president before assuming his current position. He also served as president of Perishable Distributors of Iowa, a Hy-Vee subsidiary for part of his career.
Based in West Des Moines, IA, Hy-Vee is an employee-owned corporation operating more than 225 retail stores in seven states: Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska and South Dakota.
Jurgens serves as chairman of the board of directors for Topco Associates, LLC. He is a member of the Iowa State University Foundation Board of Governors and the Iowa State Business College Dean’s Advisory Council. He is a member of the Iowa Business Council and serves on the Greater Des Moines Committee.
In the past, Jurgens has served on the boards of the Food Bank of Iowa, the Variety Club of Iowa, Iowa Prison Industries, the Ankeny Industrial Development Corporation, Food Distributors International and the YMCA of Greater Des Moines.
Jurgens earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University.
