Gregory Calhoun Elected FMI Vice Chairman of Public Affairs

ARLINGTON, VA — May 5, 2009 — Food Marketing Institute (FMI) announced today that Gregory Calhoun, president and CEO, Calhoun Food Markets, Inc., was elected vice chairman of the FMI Board of Directors and chairman of the public affairs committee. He has served on the FMI Board since 1993, and as a chairman’s appointee to the executive committee since 1999.

     Calhoun began his supermarket career as a bag boy and worked his way up to purchasing his own store in Montgomery, AL in 1984.

     Calhoun Food Markets currently operates five supermarkets in Alabama and employs more than 300 people.

     Currently, he serves on the board of the Rainbow Push Coalition and The Coca-Cola Retail Council.

     Calhoun is active in many charities and community organizations, including The Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation, and served on the boards of Trenholm State Technical College and the Montgomery Area Committee of 100.

His company was recognized as the National Minority Retail Firm of the Year in 1990 by the United States Department of Commerce.
