Dean Peterson Elected to FMI Board

ARLINGTON, VA — MAY 5, 2009 — Food Marketing Institute (FMI) announced today the election of Dean Peterson, president of Harmon City Inc., to the FMI Board of Directors.

Peterson has worked in the grocery industry for 38 years, starting out as a night-time stocker at Harmons. He moved up the ranks and has served in his current role since 1997.

Harmons is a locally owned supermarket that started out as a small produce stand 76 years ago in Salt Lake City. The company operates 13 grocery stores in Utah.

     Peterson has been active with the Utah Food Industry Association and served on its board of directors and as Chairman of the Board. He has served on the Associated Food Stores Retail Development Committee and Audit Committee and chaired the Retailer Council and Retail Development Committee.

Food Marketing Institute (FMI) conducts programs in public affairs, food safety, research, education and industry relations on behalf of its nearly 1,250 food retail and wholesale member companies in the United States and around the world. FMI’s U.S. members operate more than 25,000 retail food stores and almost 22,000 pharmacies with a combined annual sales volume of nearly $650 billion.  FMI’s retail membership is composed of large multi-store chains, regional firms and independent operators. Its international membership includes 126 companies from more than 65 countries. FMI’s nearly 330 associate members include the supplier partners of its retail and wholesale members.
