Community Outreach Awards NomineesThere is a reason why nightly news casts end with an upbeat story. After hearing about the trials and tribulations of the day, sometimes you just want to be reminded of something good.

The truth is that uplifting stories of good deserve more than a 30 second news segment. That’s why FMI developed the Community Outreach Awards, to showcase the good that grocery stores across the country are doing in local communities. From neighborhood improvement programs to youth development and hunger relief programs, the stories of grocery stores contributing to the communities they service are true examples of feel-good stories. In reading through our 14 nominations this year, one thing is clear—the good grocery stores do makes a long-lasting impact on the people in their communities and that is a story to proudly share.

In order to shed light on grocers doing good we’ve added a friendly Facebook contest component to the Community Outreach Awards. All of our 2016 nominations have been published to the FMI Facebook page and we’re inviting people to vote for their favorite program this week. The program with the most votes by 5:00 pm EST on Friday, November 18 will receive a $1,000 donation to support their community outreach program. So take a few extra minutes out of your day and look over our fabulous nominees to see all the good that grocers do. Then cast your vote for your favorite story.

While the Facebook contest is in full swing, our judges are reviewing all the nominations to make their selections for our other three categories - youth development, food insecurity and neighborhood health improvement programs. FMI will spotlight all our winners by announcing them on Facebook Live on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 1:00 pm EST. Tune in to see our winners and be a part of celebrating #GrocersDoingGood
