Current State Status: A person in charge must be able to demonstrate knowledge of food safety principals as outlined in the FDA Food Code. Being a Certified Food Protection Manager is one way to demonstrate knowledge. Person in charge must be present during hours of operation.

    State does not approve courses. SSM may be used to prepare for exam.

West Virginia has recently adopted the 2005 FDA Food Code by reference with some exceptions (see above). Exceptions also create the Food Establishment Advisory Board that may create training and certification requirements.
