Current State Status: State requires person in charge to demonstrate knowledge of food safety as outlined in 1999 FDA Food Code. Passing an approved Certified Food Protection Manager exam is one way to demonstrate knowledge.

  • SafeMark Classroom Training Approved: Yes
    State does not approve courses. SafeMark™ may be used for exam preparation.

    State does not approve courses. Online SafeMark™ may be used for exam preparation.
  • Training Frequency Required: N/A
  • SafeMark National Registry Exam Approved: Yes. Some counties do not accept NRFSP exam.

Summary of Code Requirements: Food manager certification is voluntary but can be used to meet “demonstration of knowledge” requirement. The state had adopted the FDA Food Code but allows counties to enforce food safety standards. County requirements cannot be less stringent than Food Code.
