Independent Operator
Monday, January 21, 2013
This special track was designed with the specific needs of the Independent Operator (IO) in mind. IOs are invited to a lunch presentation followed by two business sessions. The afternoon will conclude with a combined meeting of the FMI Independent Operator and Wholesaler Committees.
Independent Operator Luncheon:
Succeeding in a Highly Competitive Food Retail Environment
With the forces of change, economic pressures, and competition coming from every direction, what can independent operators do to position themselves to ensure future success? This session will offer key ways that independent operators can help their businesses gain the solid foothold they need to compete within their communities.
Mobile Commerce and the Technology-Enabled Consumer
FMI's Trends study and numerous other industry reports have pointed out that consumers are increasingly dependant on their wired and mobile Internet devices as shopping aids. For some consumers, technology impacts everything from the decision on what to make for dinner, the development of the shopping list and the decision on where to shop, to the process of in-store shopping itself. This session will explore what independent operators need to know about these consumers, the tools they use and how to take advantage of the new communication channels.
Collaborating for Growth: A 21st Century Solution for Independent Retailers
Gone are the days when a sales representative called on stores and headquarters to present their consumer and category insights and promotional programs. Today, significant opportunities for growth, innovation and profitability exist for independent retailers and CPG manufacturers who are able to leverage technology-enabled communication and information-sharing tools. This session will unveil a new FMI Internetbased platform for joint business planning that will enable independent retailers to regularly connect with manufacturers.
Joint Meeting of the FMI Independent Operator AND Wholesaler Committees
Members of the FMI Independent Operator and Wholesaler Committees are asked to participate in a joint meeting to consider association business of interest to both groups.
